    What is Peppol?

Peppol, the Pan-European Public Procurement OnLine network, offers a seamless way for businesses and governments to exchange electronic documents.

In recent years, many countries have implemented, or are in the process of introducing, electronic invoices as the exclusive type of invoice for business transactions. To facilitate the exchange of electronic invoices, governments recommend or require the use of Peppol-adapted formats tailored to each country's local requirements.

    How does Peppol work?

There are 4 steps for exchanging documents via Peppol:

    • Document Creation: Businesses create electronic documents, such as invoices, purchase orders, or delivery notes, using standardized formats.

    • Document Transmission: The documents are transmitted securely to the Peppol network through a Peppol Access Point, such as Tradeshift.

    • Routing and Delivery: The Access Point routes the documents to the appropriate recipient, which will be another Peppol Access Point, based on the information contained within the document.

    • Document Reception: The recipient's system receives the document and processes it according to their specific requirements.

For more information about Peppol as a network please visit the official site of Peppol. If you are operating in a country where Peppol is or is becoming a mandatory requirement for e-invoicing, schedule a call with one of our representatives or directly reach out to your Tradeshift contact to get you started. As a certified Peppol Access Point, Tradeshift is ready to help you comply with e-invoicing mandates and regulations that require Peppol.
